Covid-19 Update

Hello Volunteers

First and foremost we hope you, your family, and loved ones are safe and healthy. We at Fiddlesticks miss our program participants, fun community events and our volunteers. Volunteers are such an important part of enriching our programs and we are excited to slowly start incorporating volunteers back into our programming.

We are currently working on a modified Fall Program Line-up, with health and safety as our top priority. Please note that although the Fiddlesticks office remains closed to the public we are here answering emails and phone calls, we would love to hear from you.

Many of you have questions and although we don’t have many answers at this time we hope the information listed below will help.

Summer at Fiddlesticks:

Fiddlesticks did cancel our summer camp Leadership Trainee Program. We also canceled all our events. We did manage to operate a much smaller than normal summer camp program. We implemented Busy Bee pick-up activity bags for children once a week; ran ‘Pop-up parks’ daily at various parks around the neighbourhood; and have food trucks in the park on Wednesdays evenings.

Are you accepting new volunteers?

YES. We will be accepting new volunteers starting September 8th, 2020. You can come by Fiddlesticks and pick up an application or email us your address and we can mail you an application. When visiting Fiddlesticks please following directions posted on the doors.

Will there be fall programs and what will it look like?

  • Fiddlesticks is looking into running a very limited amount of programs

  • Number of participants in program will be reduced

  • There will be limits on how many volunteers are allowed in program

  • It does not appear that use of schools will be an option for the foreseeable future

  • Programs will be primarily outdoor focused (unless absolutely necessary to shelter)

  • Physical distancing will be enforced

  • Symptom tracking and frequent sanitation will be implemented.

  • Personal information collection for potential contact tracing will be enforced.

  • Outdoor portable washrooms have been installed on the property exclusively for Fiddlesticks programs only.

Will there be volunteer opportunities this fall?

YES. We hope to bring in a few volunteers to assist in programs. We do hope to start our After school Program in September and a small amount of programs will start in October. There will be limited amount of volunteer spaces available. So please let me know if you are interested.

Will there be volunteer opportunities this winter?

Good question. After school program will operate yearlong September to June. We are not sure what other programs will look like in the winter, but we are exploring some virtual options. Stay tuned.

How do I get my high school hour form signed?

The Fiddlesticks office is currently closed to the public. Over the next few weeks staff will be getting the Ferguson Homestead (our main office) set up to receive guests. Starting Sept 9th you can come to Fiddlesticks by appointment only. Follow directions posted on our external doors.

At any time, high school hour tracking forms can be emailed to me for completion at volunteer.services@on.aibn.com. Please remember to include your full name and the grade you start in September. I am also able to provide hours through Hour Republic if your school uses that system.

Are there virtual volunteer opportunities available?

Not yet but we are looking into creating ways to possibly engage our volunteers virtually.

Will I have to wear a mask while volunteering?

We encourage anyone coming to Fiddlesticks for any reason to carry a mask. You do not need to wear a mask for outdoor programs, but will be required to put on a mask if physical distancing cannot be adhered to (for example going inside the main office building)
